Dubrovnik to Split with a break in Ston
Ston is right on the road to Split, an hour out of Dubrovnik, so stopping there costs very little extra time. It turns a long drive into a day with a proper lunch in the middle.
Spend the stop on the walls above the town, or keep it easy at a table by the water in Mali Ston. Afterwards the road crosses the Pelješac Bridge and runs north along the coast to Split.

Stops along the way
Ston
The walls were built to protect the salt pans, which are still worked today. Walking a section of them takes about an hour.
Mali Ston
A tiny harbour a few minutes away, where the restaurants serve oysters and mussels from the bay in front of them.
Pelješac Bridge
We drive straight over, but look out of the window: the view down to the bay and the mussel farms is good.
